1899
Nestled in the idyllic Nahe wine country of
Germany, the Keber family saga begins
like any other beautiful fairy tale. But too soon family discord sets in.
Greed, deceit and betrayal ignite rivalries among the three brothers and five sisters of the Keber
family that would change the dynasty forever.
1929
Their story takes us through the great depression as their suffering
through monetary losses leads to a curse put on the entire family
by a disgruntled family member. Soon after, in search of a golden future, my Aunt Elisabeth and her new
husband Georg Berg arrive in the USA.
1939 to 1945
You'll relive World War II as members of the Keber
family on both sides of the Atlantic try to survive the persecution and the
insanity of the war's bloody hell.
1959
Buying a three story brownstone at 222 East 13th street
for $25,000 was a dream fulfilled which sadly would turn into my Aunt's
worst nightmare.
1988
Surrounded by neglect, 222 was now labeled the biggest
drug den of the lower East Village. Drugs and corruption had taken over
my Aunt's daily life and had robbed her of her dignity. Barely existing in
the trash bin of life, she died like a bag lady.
1993
Back in Germany, the curse took the same violent path as
the final heirs of the Keber family dynasty died penniless. As destruction
and mayhem reigned on both sides of the Atlantic, the curse was fulfilled,
and the once powerful Keber wine dynasty was lost forever. |
